In three years of existence,
Calibre 50 have amassed a catalog of four previous studio albums and a compilation.
Corridos de Alto Calibre delivers 14 new compositions with the characteristic banda and narcocorrido stamp of the group, which blends elements of traditional banda and conjunto music with the folk forms of northern Sinaloa. The songs are firmly part of the new, gritty school in Mexican song poetry and address contemporary reality with themes about drug trafficking and the violence of the narco cultura 2.0 scene as well as illegal immigration. The latter is displayed beautifully in the set's single, "El Inmigrante." "El Pastor Alemán" features a guest appearance by
Joel Elizalde, while "Se Quedaron a Tres Pasos" is another highlight.
