Cosmotron, with its mildly electronic and Brit-pop-influenced sound, is a natural follow-up to
Maquinarama, the album on which the group first abandoned its previous and highly successful reggae-pop sound. Most of the songs are rather calm, melodious tunes in which the acoustic and electric guitars drive the music forward. Apart from the obvious British influence on this album, there are also clear traces of
Lô Borges' music during his Clube da Esquina period.
Lô Borges also helped write the song "Dois Rios," which is one the best and also (together with "Supernova") the most
Beatlesque track on the album. "Nômade" is almost dub, and the soft "É Tarde" has a rather cool electronic sound. More mature than some of
Skank's earlier efforts,
Cosmotron is a neat, well-produced collection of simple but finely crafted pop songs. ~ Philip Jandovský
