This CD is most significant for being the first recording in many years of jazz harpist Adele Girard. Featured in a quintet with leader/clarinetist
Bobby Gordon, pianist
Ray Sherman, bassist Morty Corb and drummer
Gene Estes, Girard is on 12 of the 15 songs (the three other tunes are quartet features), and even though the tempos tend to be relaxed, she is still heard swinging hard. The setting is reminiscent of Girard's work with her late husband, clarinetist
Joe Marsala, and the harpist sounds wonderful on such numbers as "Someday Sweetheart," "Exactly Like You," "Muskrat Ramble," "As Long as I Live" and "Emaline." Unfortunately, this would be Adele Girard's final recording, but her place in jazz history had already been secure decades earlier. ~ Scott Yanow
