This typically intriguing
Meredith D'Ambrosio set, her 12th for the Sunnyside label, deals with lost love and looking backwards with nostalgia and regret.
D'Ambrosio's singing is often haunting, the renditions tend to be a bit introspective (although there are some brighter tempos), and the repertoire (which includes seven songs written or co-composed by the singer) holds one's interest throughout. Accompanied by pianist
Mike Renzi, bassist
Jay Leonhart, and drummer
Terry Clarke,
D'Ambrosio interprets such songs as "When Lights Are Low" (the optimistic opener), "My Romance,"
Bill Evans' "Time Remembered," and "Snowfall." Her many fans will enjoy this thought-provoking effort. ~ Scott Yanow
