Castro, a big star in his time, has Mexican-style corridos and rancheras as well as a paseo. He also plays several local Colombian merengues (a 6/8 rhythm very different from the Dominican version). Most cuts are backed by his accordion with scraper and bass, in an earlier version of vallenato. Don't be misled by the singing cowboy stuff -- the album sleeve is campy, but the music is anything but...
