Aquilo Del Nisso is a young Brazilian band that brings the rich folklore of that country in a modern instrumental dressing. The strong points are its evident musicality, the strong rhythmic appeal of folkloric genres, the quasi-acoustic setup and absence of easy clichés, the band's originals, the new reading and re-harmonization of popular tunes (by such composers as
Caetano Veloso,
Moraes Moreira,
João do Vale,
Gilberto Gil, and Dominguinhos), and the humor foretold by the band's name. A welcomed addition to the band, Naná Vasconcelos lends his brightness for the successful musical result. The title of the CD,
Festa brasileira (Brazilian Party) explicates the concept of the album, which revolves around a fun and happy community feast, a northeastern feast, that is. The album is based almost entirely over the rich baião rhythm, with one track dedicated to frevo (another northeastern rhythm, from Pernambuco, more precisely). The album will appeal to those who are into Brazilian instrumental music. It is not a jazz album, consisting mostly of carefully written parts. It also is not an instrumental pop release.
