After caroming within the industry for well over a decade, releasing numerous EPs and non-album singles, collaborating with the likes of
Chris Brown,
Brandy,
Kelly Rowland, and
B.o.B,
Sevyn Streeter finally released her debut album. On
Girl Disrupted,
Streeter continues to thrive most with slick, seductive, and melodic slow jams and ballads, highlighted by the explicit,
New Edition-referencing "Fallen" and
Brandy-worthy "Before I Do."
Streeter also pays tribute to her mid-'90s roots with a cover of
Faith Evans' "Soon as I Get Home" that, production-wise, resembles the retro-electro bounce of
Ghost Town DJ's' "My Boo," released the same year. Assists are provided by the likes of
Ty Dolla $ign,
DeJ Loaf,
Jeremih, and
Wiz Khalifa. ~ Andy Kellman
