There are dozens of good recordings of songs from the Civil War era available. There are none better than these tapes, recorded and performed by
Bobby Horton.
Horton, who has recorded with Three on a String and
the Front Porch String Band, has put together the most songs ever recorded by a single artist covering the Civil War. It is almost a misnomer to call
Horton a "single" artist. On these tapes (on his own label, Homespun) he produced and sang songs as a single, duet, trio, quartet, and chorus. He plays over a dozen instruments. The research that he has done to put together this set of tapes is unequaled. Anyone remotely interested in this phase of American heritage must have these tapes. ~ Don Stevens
