This album finds Malavoi in its prime, with Paulo Rosine leading the group, arranging, and playing piano. At this time, Ralph Thamar was the main vocalist. However, the album credits fail to mention Marie Jose Alie for her sensual vocal on the unforgettable "Caressé-Moin." "La Filo" was one of the group's trademark songs. It appears in several incarnations on several albums. This album contains the full epic seven-and-a-half-minute version. Other notable hits on the album are "Amelia," "Cinelle Ô," "Marinelle," and "Ababa." Malavoi produced some of the most melodic and rhythmic string orchestra music of all time. They are a unique phenomenon in the world of music and had their own brand of Antillean swing. There is nothing quite like the melange of strings (four violins, cello, and bass) combined with congas, bongos, and other percussion. All of this is topped off with fine piano playing and silky vocals. This is probably the best introduction to the classic Malavoi of the 1980s. Highly recommended for its exquisite sensuality and rhythmic swing. ~ Mark Romano
