Much more low-key than most people expected,
Let Go proves that
the Phelps were the smarts behind
the HeadHunters. The title cut was a breezy single that recalled
Buddy Holly, and elsewhere on the album,
the Phelps made judicious use of Southern boogie ("Were You Really Livin'") and strings ("What Goes Around"). Not a perfect album, and not as good as
the HeadHunters at their peak, but
Let Go still contains some mighty nice listening. ~ Brian Mansfield
