This live CD, recorded 15 years after the brilliant
Triskaidekaphobie and 11 after Le Poison Qui Rend Fou, finds only guitarist
Roger Trigaux remaining from the original group, joined by his son Reginald on second lead guitar. How time flies. For whatever reasons, there is little of the
Univers Zero magic on this disc, perhaps due to the lesser skills of the younger
Trigaux, or perhaps the limitations of a two-guitar quartet, or possibly because of the anonymity of the bassist and drummer, who have no past
Univers Zero credentials. "Promenade Au Fond D'un Canal" is borrowed from
Present's earlier recording (it is actually a section of
Triskaidekaphobie), but suffers in comparison with the original. It is slack and meandering, with none of the signature tautness or nervous energy of its predecessor. However, with all writing and arranging done by the elder
Trigaux, it's also possible that he was looking for some mainstream success beyond the cult following enjoyed by the earlier bands, a suspicion which is supported by the presence of a blues ("Laundry Blues") and several growling,
Howlin' Wolf-style vocals -- not at all the sorts of influences or styles that would ever have been heard on a
Univers Zero recording. This one is for completists and fans of guitar heroics only.
