Deutsche Grammophon's double-disc set
Love Moods features some of classical and film music's most romantic opera and instrumental pieces. Disc 1 collects highlights from operas such as Carmen, Tosca, La Boheme, and The Marriage of Figaro as performed by
Luciano Pavarotti,
José Carreras,
Montserrat Caballé,
Plácido Domingo, and
Anne Sofie VonOtter;
Bryn Terfel's version of "Mio Cuore Va (My Heart Will Go On)" (Titanic) redeems the song somewhat from its overblown origins. Disc 2, meanwhile, showcases romantic instrumentals like
Satie's "Gymnopédie No. 3,"
Liszt's "Liebestraum," Massenet's "Méditation from Thaïs," and
Nino Rota's "Love Theme from the Godfather." While it's not a definitive collection of romantic classical music,
Love Moods is still a pleasant and relaxing one. ~ Heather Phares
