Released by Cleopatra (the "avoid" alarm should sound instantly),
Metro: Greatest Hits is a sad thing. Judging from the track listing on the back, it contains four of
Berlin's best songs, which are followed by eight remixes. The four songs at the beginning -- "Sex (I'm A)," "Metro," "Masquerade," "Take My Breath Away" -- are actually re-recordings (a fact not indicated anywhere) with thin arrangements that hardly rival the originals.
Terri Nunn is in good voice but lacks that snotty delivery. Regular Cleopatra enablers like
Rosetta Stone,
Transmutator,
Sigue Sigue Sputnik, and
the Mission overhaul these and other songs for neo-goth hideouts. They're uniformly negligible. ~ Andy Kellman
