The debut from Canadian singer
Kristy sees her running through a bunch of standards, with forays into pop on
Lennon and
McCartney's "Blackbird" and country on "You Don't Know Me." The arrangements by
Peter Cardinali offer a few interesting touches, such as the Dobro on "My Romance," but for the most part they aim at the modern end of classy and standard.
Kristy herself is a good singer, although not yet a distinctive one. She's at her best on the more introspective materials, and it would be good to hear her take a few more chances. It's a good album, but not enough to create a strong impression of
Kristy. She needs more experience to help define her voice and she'd do better to pick material that hasn't been recorded so many times. ~ Chris Nickson
