This is the debut album by Jim Greer and Brandon Arnovick, two non-related San Francisco producers who have spent the past decade as the go-to guys for
Dan the Automator. The men behind the man, they've joined
the Automator on all his greatest hits, including
Deltron 3030,
Dr. Octagon,
Handsome Boy Modeling School and Lovage. And you can hear their input to the master producer's sound on this Hawaiian-themed release. The world is definitely not ready for a
Don Ho-hop movement. But with that said,
the Rondos certainly bring the funk to the luau. "Ghosty Story Part I" and "II" have a nice spoken word
Ry Cooder flavor, while Poach Stevens sounds like Beans after getting leied on "Ukulele Poo-Poo Platter." Though not as accomplished as the
Handsome Boy album, White People, (released at the same time): fans of one will not be able to resist the charms of the other. ~ Joshua Glazer
