Most of the remixes of
the One AM Radio's
A Name Writ in Water aren't noticeably different from the originals, at least, not upon first listen. You'd have to set one next to the other, contrasting and comparing. Either way,
On the Shore of the Wide World is just as atmospheric, and a great blending of acoustic and electronic instrumentation.
Hrishikesh Hirway's seven pieces are given treatments by such folks as
John Tejada,
alias and
Daedelus, resulting in another work that will draw comparisons to
Her Space Holiday or
Four Tet. It's more focused on the electronic aspects of the songs, though they don't stray too far from the original concepts, remaining downtempo. New layers are added here, glitchy beats there, as well as subtle trickery with vocals (the jazz vocal on "Under Thunder and Gale," however, doesn't really fit). Along with
Hirway's lyrics about getting lost at sea,
On the Shore is indeed a soundtrack for drifting on the waters, unsure of a destination.
