As usual,
Muldaur alternates between bluesy, languorous numbers and uptempo tunes, which edge here into stridency. Doing what worked earlier in her career,
Muldaur stirs guest stars --
Stevie Wonder and
Junior Walker -- in with crack studio vets. Her conversion to Christianity seemingly in remission, she sings not about her Lord but about men and how to get along with them. In one song, she realizes that while she's been at women's liberation meetings, the "Clean Up Woman" has made off with Muldaur's man. If she had stuck to slow numbers, this could have been a low-key charmer, but the fast songs tend to disrupt the flow. Sometimes
Muldaur is a victim of her versatility. ~ Mark Allan
