Zurich's Beat Solér followed his 2000 Klein debut,
The Rise and Fall of Silvercity-Bob, by taking a smog-filled sabbatical to the City of Angels in search of inspiration for his sophomore album. Having sourced vocals from kids in Compton (with "Manila," the first single to be lifted from the album featuring the 12-year-old tones of Mike Master Michael Smith, having been sparked by everyone from Rob da Bank to breakbeat hero Layo), an old-folks home, and a karaoke bar as well as lifting a crazed preacher from radio broadcasts to the Nevada scrubland, Beat Solér returned to Zurich to add the bells and whistles from his hard-disk lounge orchestra. The result is yet another magical album from Klein. ~ Kingsley Marshall
