This joyous album matches together the very complementary clarinets of
Jacques Gauthe and
Alain Marquet in a sextet also including trombonist
Daniel Barda, pianist
Louis Mazetier, Enzo Mucci on banjo and guitar, and sousaphonist Michel Marcheteau. The French musicians really understand the 1920s/New Orleans jazz idiom and the performances of such tunes as "Doctor Jazz," "Darktown Strutters' Ball," "Oriental Man," and "Nobody's Sweetheart" are consistently exciting. The interplay between the two clarinetists raises this project to a high level and makes it highly recommended to classic jazz fans.
