The second
Phylyps Trak record in the
Basic Channel series of records offers two additional variations on the sound motifs explored on the original and its successive remix. Once again, the Berlin collective take some sharp metallic percussion and assemble an intricate rhythm foundation with little space and plenty of momentum. This forward-moving rhythm then gets amplified with some muted, hollow-sounding bass kicks on the thunderous, up-tempo side and some heavily altered, high-frequency industrial sounds on the minimal side. This second
Phylyps Trak record reaches more epic proportions, lasting up to ten minutes on each side. Not quite as inventive or harsh as the first record, but this sequel does take the sound to more minimal extremes, resulting in a sense of dizzying repetition that seems to never end its disorienting loops.
