Eddie K. Plays the Hits of George Canseco, all ten songs were composed by George Canseco, one of the Philippines' most respected songwriters, who has written a number of Philippine evergreens.
Eddie K. plays both alto and soprano saxophone on the album.
Eddie K. has a fine, depth-filled tone on saxophone, and his playing immediately makes an impression on a listener. He puts much feeling into his playing, and a listener comes away feeling the passion.
Eddie K. can make a song sound better than it should. The songs on
Eddie K. Plays the Hits of George Canseco are mostly played in a note for note manner, as improvisational-based jazz isn't well known in the Philippines; nonetheless,
Eddie K. adds sweet jazzy flourishes here and there, and his passionate delivery makes the music meaningful.
"Gaano Kadalas Ang Minsan" (How Often Is Sometimes) opens on a mysterious-sounding ambience, as the string section moves in an ominous minor key vein, and the drums pound in a foreboding manner.
Eddie K. enters playing an easy listening melody, but the passion increases, and he turns the song into a real charmer. He adds some jazzy twists to "Ngayon at Kailan Man" (Now and Whenever) and "Kastilyong Buhangin" (Sand Castle). His playing on "Kailangan Kita" is smooth and velvety, and he also soars wondrously in the chorus.
