Although
Potage du Jour is a cooperative effort featuring three musicians engaging in free improvisations, clearly singer
Franziska Baumann is the main star. Her intense wordless vocals are frequently bizarre, filled with otherworldly sounds. Her range is very impressive and she never seems to falter, but that does not necessarily mean that this is easy music to listen to. While saxophonist Jürg Solothurnmann and pianist Christoph Baumann also improvise freely, they sound conventional next to the singer, whose very adventurous flights are easier to admire than to love. ~ Scott Yanow
