Since 2017, Young M.A has imposed herself as the antithesis of the stripped-back rappers that monopolise the charts. At the age of 28, with her grills and dangerous flow, she releases Red Flu, her second EP, less than one year after the release of her acclaimed debut album Herstory in the Making. Her popularity is higher than ever allowing her to take more risks. On several tracks, such as the opening Dripset, this Brooklyn native opens up about her romantic relationships as she come out as one of the first female rappers to reveal her homosexuality and talk about it openly in her lyrics. Other tracks such as Trap or Cap and 2020 Vision are accounts of indispensable rage and menacing tone which set Young M.A. apart from the crowd; she displays a strong sensitivity on Angles vs. Demons in a manner that we are not familiar with. A more mixed musical direction than before in what can be seen as a teaser of what is to come in her much anticipated next album. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
