Lo-Hi's 2002 release,
Say It More, wishes it could sound as exciting as
White Stripes, or as gloriously dated as
the Strokes, yet misses on both counts. The band has an unusual background considering their 1997 release was influenced by R&B, and members hail from
Boss Hog and
Speedball Baby. This release marks the first studio effort since former
Boss Hog guitarist Jens Jürgensen and bassist Justin Holub joined the band and turned it into a quartet, and the change of style is understandable considering these additions. Unfortunately,
Say It More never leaves much of an impression, as even at its loudest it's simply average garage rock. "Dig Thru" and "Light Up" are two of the better songs, yet this album is lacking the punch to weigh in with its more successful peers in the rock scene. ~ Jason D. Taylor
