Ignore the cheesy art on the cover and the odd label "Easy Listening, Lite Jazz;" this swinging quartet session featuring the music of
Harold Arlen is worth checking out. Bassist
Jay Leonhart is the leader, with
Ken Peplowski on clarinet and tenor sax,
Ted Rosenthal on piano and drummer
Grady Tate, who adds a nice vocal to "Ill Wind." No credit is given for the superb fresh arrangements, especially the humorous snappy "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead," a sly waltzing "If I Only Had A Brain," and a bluesy "Accentuate The Positive." Recommended. ~ Ken Dryden
