Shake It for Mickey is a budget-priced 16-track collection that finds
Mickey Gilley in a raucous mood, sounding an awful lot like his cousin,
Jerry Lee Lewis.
Gilley rips through several cover versions with the spark and fire of "
the Killer," especially on "Suzie Q," "Is It Wrong," "Shake It for Mickey Gilley" (which is actually a remake of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On"), and another rocker from the
Lewis catalog, "Breathless." Even the laid-back country tunes have an edge that tends to get smoothed out on most of
Gilley's records. Along with
Ten Years of Hits on the Epic label,
Shake It for Mickey is highly recommended.
