Shakin' Around is probably intended as a tidy promotion for C'mon DJ, the most recent
Mr. Airplane Man full-length. But even at five tracks, the EP is full of blistering abandon and tunefulness. Margaret Garrett and Tara McManus have become formidable songwriters -- there's no other reason for how fresh'n'sexy they make the punchy, simplistic blues stumble of "Up in the Room" sound. C'mon DJ owners will recognize the razor-burn, sloe-eyed, and blue sheen of "Hang Up"; the fun
Chuck Berry romp "Round and Round" comes from the same Greg Cartwright sessions in Memphis. Besides "Room," "Shakin' Around" might be the best thing here. Garrett metes out the lyrics between squeals and breathy panting as Jay Rassler's guest guitar wails with dirty abandon -- the result is a treat both dirty and sweet. ~ Johnny Loftus
