Regina Machado is a Brazilian lyrical singer, in this release bridging the gap between erudite/chamber song and popular music. Achieving an excellent balance between the technical perfection of erudite emission and the informal diction of popular music,
Regina overcame the biggest challenge in such enterprises, where most of times interpreters fail to relate to the lighter spirit of popular music. But at the same time, she makes no compromises to production formulas, and the album breathes with originality: In almost all tracks she is accompanied by a string quartet with occasional percussion and even her own popular violão playing. The songs consist in erudite and popular songs by Brazilian composers, with two lieder by
Robert Schumann ("Ich Will Meine Seele Tauchen" and "Du Bist Wie Eine Blume") and the canción "Del Cabello Más Sutil" (by the Spanish composer Fernando Obradors). Along with surprisingly competent originals, she performs works by one of the best Brazilian erudite composers, Guerra Peixe. In the popular side, she interprets
Chico Buarque ("Uma Menina") and
Caetano Veloso ("Este Amor"), always researching among less-known tunes. An interesting album, full of artistic sincerity and competence, suited for adventurous listeners.
