It was inevitable that
Moral Crux would finally sign with Lookout! Records. Although far more politically motivated than, say,
the Mr. T Experience, the Oregon quartet's deceptively sweet punk-pop sound is entirely in keeping with the label's aesthetic. That's probably the point, actually; no one who doesn't agree with their political beliefs is ever gonna subject themselves to the hectoring noise punk of
Crass, for example, but it's easy to imagine that some
blink-182-lovin' suburban teenager might be drawn to the catchy sweetness of a tune like "Yesterday's Kisses" long enough to be exposed to the more thoughtful "Bomb for the Mainstream" or the
Monkees-quoting "Status Symbol Land." Fans of
the Queers,
the Fastbacks, or
Screeching Weasel, on the other hand, will love them just for the bubble-punk bounce of the tunes.
