Like her debut, Muldaur's third album features outstanding studio musicians and carefully chosen guests, including
J.J. Cale,
Linda Ronstadt and
Kenny Burrell. Although her choice of great material continues -- in part due to songs by
Kate and Anna McGarrigle and
Wendy Waldman for the third straight album -- this release tilts more toward jazz and gospel than the blues, country and folk of earlier outings. While Smokey Robinson's title tune and "Rocking Chair," featuring legendary songwriter
Hoagy Carmichael, are among many sweet moments, there are four rousing showstoppers for variety.
Lenny Waronker and
Joe Boyd return as Muldaur's producers for the third and final time. ~ Mark Allan
