Little Willie John's second album for King Records,
Talk to Me, finds the diminutive singer with the big pipes tackling a range of material from big-city blues to jumping R&B to smooth ballads. His big hit from the record was the sophisticated doo wop-styled "Talk to Me, Talk to Me," but the rest is also high quality music. He sings his guts out on the aching "Tell It Like It Is," overcomes a cheesy backing chorus on a cover of "Person to Person," rocks out quite convincingly on "Uh Uh Baby" and "Until You Do," and swings like
Sam Cooke on "There Is Someone in the World for Me." Basically,
Little Willie John could sing his grocery list and it would be otherworldly. That the material he does sing on this album is so strong makes the experience doubly good.
