David Arnold's score for the action film Musketeer is exactly what you would expect with little surprises. Filled with blaring horns and dramatic strings,
Musketeer is a collection of decent tracks that fill the stereotypical archetype for an action film soundtrack. The "Main Title" bears more than a passing resemblance to
John Williams' "Prologue and Main Title" from Superman. Other tracks are amazingly similar to
James Horner's work on Braveheart, while the themes to the action sequences were straight out of the
Danny Elfman school of scoring. But none of these are bad influences to have, it just sounds like many movie scores before it. "Prepare Duschamp for Hell" is a short but excellent exception to this pattern, and points to where
Arnold could have taken this project. Listeners looking for other film scores to compliment their
Horner and
Williams collections might enjoy this, but otherwise this is an unspectacular effort. ~ Bradley Torreano
