The infrequently recorded tenor and baritone saxophonist
Turk Mauro turned in some electrifying performances on the 1977 release
The Underdog. He was joined on several tracks by
Al Cohn, who lives up to his reputation, and also got the benefits of excellent support from a classy rhythm section that included pianist Hugh Lawson, alternating bassists Bob Cranshaw and Tom Rainey, and drummer
Ben Riley. ~ Ron Wynn
