Though not the EmArcy/Mercury recordings that put
Sarah Vaughan on the map, she did some fine work for Columbia records, a reliable source, and many great tunes from her discography are included here. She surely could wring all the emotion possible out of any torch song or romantic ballad, and among the 15 tracks included are classic versions of "Summertime," "Wave," "Just Friends," "The Nearness of You," and "Can't Get Out of This Mood." Nothing else on this collection is second rate -- it is all very good. Since her passing, there have been numerous compilations of
Vaughan's work. This one is a quite decent, if not a desirable one to pick up, especially if you are just discovering The Divine One. ~ Michael G. Nastos
