There must be something in the Northwestern water that inspires a band to want to sound like
Built to Spill or
Modest Mouse. Not that this is the intention of
764-HERO, but the fact that vocalist John Atkins has the appealing whiny tone of BTS frontman Doug Martch doesn't help. The Weekend of Sound has an all around flavor of melancholy as the loose guitars and laid back current result in the labeling of "Rainy Day indie." Moping presence and obvious comparisons aside,
764-HERO pleasantly soothe their way without lyrically feeling sorry for themselves. ~ Mike DaRonco
