The Richmond, Virginia trio
Boom was formed in 1994 by
Anthony Curtis, Greg LaBudde and Pippin Barnett. The band's music has a playful edge, incorporating elements of free jazz, Rock in Opposition and folk music.
Boom self-released its first recording, Squint. Its second release,
One Hour Talisman, was released by Cuneiform in 1997.
Anthony Curtis works in both the jazz and rock idioms, and makes his living performing and teaching guitar to guitar teachers.
Curtis has self-released several titles. Greg LaBudde has played in the Richmond-area bands
Hoi Polloi, Hammersmith and Loibon. He works as an archeologist for the state of Virginia. Pippin Barnett has played with the Richmond groups the Orthotonics and the Ululating Mummies, and internationally with
Curlew,
Fred Frith,
Hans Reichel, No Safety, Nimal and
Half Japanese. ~ Jim Dorsch
