Call Me Ace is an independent hip hop artist, millennial professional and disruptor who challenges the status quo.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut as a first-generation Jamaican-American, Ace showed an appreciation for creative and performing art at an early age. By the age of 19 while completing his bachelor’s degree, Ace co-founded the Columbia University Society of Hip Hop (CUSH), which catapulted his music career, and granted him the opportunity to open for Snoop Dogg in front of a crowd of 26,000 attendees. Seven months after receiving his Master of Business Administration degree from UC Berkley-Haas, Call Me Ace’s EP, Misinterpretations (2016) gained recognition from KUSF, Bay Area’s popular college radio station. Additionally, his mixtape 2interpretations (2017) gained recognition from the Top 10 most-spun Thizzler’s Bay Area Music Chart at #19 (out of 50) and radio play from New York City’s #1 hip-hop radio station, Hot 97.1. In 2018, Call Me Ace released his second mixtape, Day Job Flow, which enabled him to headline shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
In March 2019, Call Me Ace released his debut album, Airplane Mode, which debuted #3 on the iTunes Top 40 US Hip-Hop Album Chart as well as #50 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Album Sales chart. The album was well-received by KQED (NPR) and The Daily Californian; and its success resulted in opportunities for Ace to perform at Facebook’s headquarters for over thousands of employees. Ace’s second EP, Working From Home (February 2020) illustrates the inherent tension in maintaining two flourishing careers: one in music and one in corporate. The EP’s title plays on a common corporate phrase to describe telecommuting as well as symbolizes Call Me Ace’s independent music grind as well as his subtle rebellion against the status quo. To date, Working From Home has over 1,000,000 Spotify streams and media recognition from Earmilk.com, Medium.com, Chartmetric, Encore Entertainment Magazine, Praise Break Podcast, ItsBizKit.com, Authority Magazine, NPR’s KALW Radio & more.
In June 2020, Call Me Ace will release Working From Home: Extended – a project that reflects on what “survival” means during these virtually unprecedented times: global pandemic, racial injustice, and social unrest.
