Dick Pearce

Dick Pearce

trumpet

b. 19 April 1951, London, England. A fine, clear-toned, lyrical trumpeter and flügelhorn-player, Pearce has shown his consistency and imagination over 10 years with Ronnie Scott’s band, playing regularly at Scott’s club and on the road. He took trumpet lessons at the age of 13, but taught himself theory. From 1968-71 he was in the army, where he played in the band, and on discharge he joined Graham Collier, with whom he worked from 1971-72. As well as Scott’s quintet he has played with Mike Westbrook, Keith Tippett, Dudu Pukwana, Chris Biscoe, Brian Abrahams, and Gil Evans’ UK Band. In September 1990 he was injured in a motorcycle accident, and was out of action for some months, but by the end of 1991 he was back leading his own quartet. In 2000 he played some evocative trumpet on the Umbrella People’s debut album Selling Water By The River.
