An indie trio from Sydney, Australia and throwback to the Manchester scene of the early '90s, DMA's formed in 2012 when Johnny Took and Tommy O'Dell -- members of the local rock band Underlights -- started writing songs with guitarist Matt Mason. Working together as three songwriters, the trio quickly developed a sound that drew from early-'90s Mancunian indie rock, with particular likenesses to some of the scene's greats like Oasis, Primal Scream, and Happy Mondays. DMA's quickly signed to the tiny label I Oh You on the strength of their home-recorded demos, and before long their debut single, "Delete," climbed the charts and garnered praise from the press, musical peers, and a growing fan base. Their self-titled debut EP surfaced in the summer of 2014, and in early 2016 they dropped their debut full-length, Hills End. Late 2017 and early 2018 saw the release of the singles "Dawning," "In the Air," and "For Now" ahead of the arrival of their sophomore full-length effort, also titled For Now, later that April. 2019 saw the release of their first live album, MTV Unplugged Live, which captured one of the group's sets at the Melbourne Memo Music Hall in 2018. ~ Fred Thomas
