Palindrome-obsessed indie rockers
IfIHadAHiFi got together in northern Wisconsin, and developed a sound that fused squalling noise rock with dance beats and cheap electronics. Original members Dr. Awkward (drums), Mr. Alarm (bass), and Yale Delay (synth, guitar) first played together in a local band called the Pop Machine, which disbanded in late 1999. Forming a new group, they began playing shows around the area, and recorded a demo (full title: We Will Not Be Responsible for Any Damage to Plastic Bowling Balls. This Includes Scratches, Nicks, Gouges, Etc. Use at Your Own Risk) that found its way to mp3.com. They subsequently added a second synth player, Noise Lesion, and recorded their first official full-length album, Ones and Zeroes, which was released by No Karma in late 2001. Before the group began its supporting tour, Noise Lesion departed and was replaced by guitarist/synth player Reno Loner. ~ Steve Huey
