North West London's anonymous, mask-wearing rapper
M Huncho produces a woozy, trippy style of rap he calls "trapwave," with lyrics authentically reflecting his life on the streets. He broke out with his first two major-label mixtapes,
Utopia (2019) and
Huncholini the 1st (2020), which were both certified silver in the U.K. His debut studio album,
Chasing Euphoria, arrived in 2022, preceded by charting singles featuring
Giggs and
Headie One.
After making a name for himself on the local scene,
M Huncho burst out in April 2017 when he appeared on the web show Mad About Bars, in which a different rapper is asked to come on each week and do a freestyle. Fans of the show immediately pronounced
Huncho's freestyle one of the best there had ever been, and his reputation was secured. His debut EP, Get Out, arrived that October, with the single "Mediocre" and another EP,
48 Hours, following in 2018.
Huncho's debut mixtape for Island,
Utopia, arrived in April 2019. The 14-track set consolidated the rapper's blend of woozy trapwave in a cohesive, vibe-driven format and produced his biggest single so far, "Ocho Cinco." A sophomore mixtape was quick to follow in 2020's
Huncholini the 1st. Previewed by the
Nafe Smallz-assisted "Thumb," the record was more of a mixed bag, combining his signature trapwave with forays into melodic trap.
Huncho and
Smallz linked up again in late 2020 for the collaborative mixtape
DNA. With appearances from close contemporaries
Young Adz and
Yxng Bane, the project tapped the duo's long-running synergy for a collection of trapwave anthems.
Huncho delivered several stand-alone singles in 2021, then released collaborations with
Headie One ("Warzone") and
Giggs ("Lean"), which appeared on the 2022 studio album
