Pan-European death metal supergroup
Nightrage was formed in 2000 by legendary Swedish vocalist
Tomas Lindberg (
At the Gates,
the Crown,
Disfear, etc.), Greek guitar hero
Gus G. (
Dream Evil,
Exhumation,
Mystic Prophecy, etc.) and rhythm guitarist
Marios Iliopoulos (Dies Irae,
Exhumation), French bassist Brice Leclercq (Dissection), and Danish drummer Per M. Jensen (
Artillery,
the Haunted, etc.). Yes, it's a veritable who's-who of intriguing band connections, and one which inevitably led to some lineup alterations following the band's debut album for Century Media, 2003's
Sweet Vengeance. Enter a new rhythm section comprising Swedish bassist
Henric Carlsson (also
Cipher System) and Greek drummer Fotis "Benardo" Giannakopoulos (
Cradle of Filth,
Septic Flesh, etc.) prior to
Nightrage's recording of their sophomore effort Descent Into Chaos. 2007's Lifeforce Records-issued
A New Disease Is Born featured an almost entirely new lineup, with
Marios Iliopoulos (guitar) and
Henric Carlsson (bass) as the solo holdovers.
Nightrage bucked the trend on their fifth studio LP, 2010's well-received Insidious, by utilizing the talents of the same crew that unleashed
A New Disease Is Born, but the lineup was once again dismantled and rebuilt for 2015's The Puritan and 2017's
The Venomous, both of which were released via the Stockholm, Sweden-based indie Despotz. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
