Robert Musso

Robert Musso

Equally comfortable in blues, Funk, Fusion, Dub, and Worldbeat settings, guitarist Robert Musso is impossible to pigeonhole. Having worked with Bill Laswell, Sonny Sharrock, Herbie Hancock, Bootsy Collins, and Gambian griot Foday Musa Suso, Musso's eclecticism also shines through in his solo recordings. Sometimes he breaks out the wah-wah pedal and wails over a percolating Funk groove; other times he simply plays the blues like an old pro. Some of his more mainstream-accessible guitar solo work resembles a subdued Satriani, while his most energetic compositions approach Afro-Pop in their rolling polyrhythms and punchy horn lines. Much of his work, however, consists of spacious, Asian-flavored, Ambient Dub explorations.
