Shakedown

Shakedown

trance/acid house group

Created in 1999, Shakedown are brothers Sebastien and Stephan Kohler, although they prefer to be known as Seb K and Mandrax. Growing up in Switzerland, they left for England and the USA respectively to develop their musical careers. Seb K worked as a sound engineer, and then returned to Switzerland to start the Bel Air Project with Alex Attias, releasing a couple of funky/experimental drum n' bass singles. Mandrax meanwhile was in NY, where he co-founded the Liquid Groove and Boombastic labels with pre-everybody House producer legend Mike Delgado. Returning to Switzerland in 1999, Mandrax started the Shakedown project with his brother initially as a production team for other artists, but they continued to develop their own sound, and the result was their debut album You Think You Know (2001). The single "At Night" followed in 2002, and quickly became a club anthem (climbing to no. 6 on the UK Singles chart) with its electro soul fun-loving vibe and deep funky beats.
