Steven James Adams is an indie singer/songwriter from Cambridge, England known for both his solo work and as co-founder of the bands Hofman,
the Broken Family Band, and
Singing Adams. After a brief time in the '90s duo Hofman with Jay Williams, the pair co-founded the country-rock group
Broken Family Band with bassist Gavin Johnson and drummer Micky Roman in 2001. That band released seven albums and EPs throughout the decade before
Adams formed
Singing Adams with guitarist Matthew Ashton, bassist Michael Wood, and drummer Melinda Bronstein.
Adams had already put out a record called Problems in 2005 as the
Singing Adams, whereas the official quartet released
Everybody Friends Now in 2011 and
Moves in 2012. The songwriter released his first album under his own name in 2014. Titled
House Music, the jangly debut featured a number of guest performers, including Justin Young of
the Vaccines and
Dan Mangan. His second solo album, the warm and melodic
Old Magick, was produced by Dan Michaelson and released by Fortuna in 2016. ~ Marcy Donelson
