This trio of pianist
Fred Hersch, clarinetist
Michael Moore, and percussionist
Gerry Hemingway is named for the Wallace Stevens' poem "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird." The group makes sophisticated music that is more melodic than many of the groups
Hemingway has played in, and calmer than some of those
Moore has recorded with (
ICP Orchestra, for one). Their mix of originals and covers resulted in a couple of tours and two discs of lovely music for the GM Recordings and Palmetto labels. ~ Joslyn Layne
