A dynamic, very aggressive, and animated yet disciplined drummer,
Tony Reedus initially gained attention as a member of
Woody Shaw's early-'80s band. He subsequently did other session work with such players as
James Williams and
Mulgrew Miller, and also led sessions for Jazz City and Enja in the '80s and '90s.
Reedus died suddenly on November 16, 2008, from a pulmonary embolism upon returning to New York from performing in Italy. He was 49 years old. ~ Ron Wynn
