Wennink

London based electronic act

WENNINK is the collaboration of London-based singer songwriter, Oliver Wennink, and producer, Matt Owen. Their music is crafted from layers of glitchy percussion, spacious ambience and beautifully rich vocals. Matt’s work as a drummer and programmer in various bands in and around Manchester in the 90's lead to Djing and a residency for the successful 'Sunrise' club night at the Music Box. He spent several years living and breathing the underground club and free party scene whilst continuing work in the studio, signing his 'Allaby' project to Nano Records in 2004. Since then he's continued to tour the international festival circuit and performed at gigs as diverse as the Glade, Glastonbury, la Vida Cultural, Sao Paulo and Rainbow Serpent, Australia. Other collaborations have included techno act, FØRM (Nanotech) and John Monkman (Get Physical). Oliver has been working and touring as a professional piano player and sessioning for major label-signed acts whilst honing his craft and writing songs. Wanting a break from the traditional indie-folk music scene, his attention began to be drawn towards analogue, electronic ambient sounds and alternative music production. After meeting at their neighbouring studios in the heart of Brixton, the two joined forces through experimenting and finding a natural convergence between their different styles. Oliver’s background in folk and indie fused with Matt’s history in the dance music scene were the building blocks for their first EP, Hard and Square. Despite their very different musical backgrounds, their shared inspiration from the worlds of indie, underground dance and electronica has helped them develop a sound that is uniquely theirs. The result is a fragile, piano-synth electronica with vocal hooks and melodies that will haunt you. Reviews on their latest single, Dissolve: “beautifully crafted… a glorious work of musical art.” - Indie Shuffle “Recalling James Blake or Thom Yorke's solo work, there's a quietly pervasive atmosphere of paranoia which runs through the track.” - Clash
