Fifteen years after his first foray into the world of Biber (Missa Bruxellensis, Requiem), Jordi Savall now offers us his interpretation of the maestro’s other mass work, Missa Salisburgensis. This piece requires 53 voices, a number Savall conducted a few months ago as part of a performance at the Konzerthaus in Vienna during the famous "Resonanzen" festival. For Savall, the Missa Salisburgensis ‘dominates the world of polychoral music through the complexity and richness of its writing. It always creates a unique sound in its spatial expression; symbolising, with exuberance, the greatness of divine power - be it political or religious.’ In completing this amazing masterpiece of the seventeenth century, the Catalan musicians has chosen an unfairly neglected work of the period, Biber’s Battaglia, a completely mad work of genius. © SM/Qobuz
