¡España! offers a journey through the art and soul of Spanish singing, in its most diverse musical forms. It would be difficult to summarize the immense melodic heritage resulting from the plurality of regions and the long history of this beautiful country, but the prism of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries’ Spanish composers seems most judicious and representative. In the wake of the too often forgotten Felipe Pedrell (1841-1922), composer and emeritus musicologist of Castilian folklore, they have tried to (re)integrate their popular musical heritage into "scholarly" music and to embody Hispanic character by a fundamental reference to traditional music. © Klarthe
